MANAGING DIRECTOR

From an early stage, my inspiration and energy has always come from the thrill of a deal and this is what guided me to a career in M&A.

 

However, if you peel back the onion, the real enthusiasm was really generated by my passion of working with entrepreneurs, and seeing them inspire the teams they work with to want to succeed and grow their businesses. The M&A was just the culmination of those efforts or the next phase of expansion for those teams, where they were able to actualise their ambitions. With that backdrop, I realised that being in private practice, I wasn't able to get close enough to the deal, to touch the rainbow, so to speak. In that moment, I knew that despite my love of being in private practice, a step into business was required (in fact, necessary) - as it represented the opportunity to work with, guide and fuel entrepreneurs directly as part of their teams and participate in their entire story from start to finish, not just being asked to show up at certain intervals.

My career in-house has seen me work with big and small companies, successful companies and some not so successful ones. But irrespective of size or success, I always enjoyed and thrived 'in the journey'; each role giving me the chance to learn, adapt and shape my approach. These roles also gave me the privilege to work with people of varying backgrounds, cultures and personalities across the world. Through this, it was remarkable to see these cross-disciplined teams inspire and lead such varying groups of people within industry to be able to create camaraderie and success. Yet often these teams struggled with risk and how to obtain legal support that fit their needs

In this context, I understood that there were many entrepreneurs in the energy services market that were not able to get the right level of support, as their business didn't justify their own hire and the law firms were not equipped to provide this type of service at a reasonable cost. Their path either leading them to take on too much cost or to blindly soldier on with risks which were potentially costly and harmful to their business.

 

This recognition led me to the establishment of COUNSEL-R ENERGY: where I have the fascinating opportunity to combine the passions and skills I have developed through my career, and mentor like-minded lawyers, to allow us to serve a truly remarkable industry and the ingenuity, innovation and vision of a fantastic class of entrepreneurs.

We respect the trust they show in us and will continue to work tirelessly to deliver the guidance they want, on the terms they value, with humility, attention, passion and enthusiasm.
